The Alchemists of LoomThe Alchemist of Loom is a very interesting adventure. Filled with magic, lies and betrayal. It’s definitely a darker story with main characters who are not necessarily pure of heart.

Her vengeance. His vision.
Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.
Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.
When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.
He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.
The story is told in four main points of view. Arianna, Cvareh, Florence and Leona. My two favorite characters end up being Cvareh and Florence.
Ari is on a mission for revenge for what the Dragons have taken from her. She uses the guise of wanting to restore Loom but she is really fueled by her deep hatred. As the story progresses you see many sides of Ari and not all of them are pretty. Her development is slower but she has many demons to come to terms with.
Leona ugh being in the villain's eyes was definitely interesting. She is a villain because of her loyalty to the actual villain, the Dragon King. He plays her and she knows it but doesn’t care. I hated reading her parts but at the same time they were interesting. It was interesting to me at one point Cva points out their similarities.
I absolutely loved Florence and Cvareh. Florence is the character I felt had the most growth in the story. She starts out this curious but scared apprentice of Arianna. She knows her way about the black market but is not one for hand to hand combat. It’s amazing to me how much she changed through their adventure and really grows.
Cvareh is just likeable. Even though he has his Dragon nature when you get to the heart of him he is good. Better than Arianna in my opinion. He is loyal to his house of course but he also is able to see past prejudices. His eyes really become open on the journey and he embraces the knowledge instead of pushing it away.
Definitely an interesting story. I was lost in the beginning a bit but I didn’t read Elise Kova's other series. So that might be my confusion. As the story progresses my confusion was easily ironed out. I did have some points I felt it was slow but I’m also an impatient reader. I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes. I really enjoyed the ending of this installment. I'm also hoping for more in Petra's POV.
