This post is action packed..I've got a Guest Post, Review, a little teaser and of course a Giveaway for you. I'm so glad to be a part of the tour for Soar by Alyssa Rose Ivy hosted by InkSlinger PR!
In the city that never sleeps the Chronicles continue…
Serving coffee is temporary, just like Casey's year off from school. She’s going to come up with a plan to stay in New York City and go back to college, and that plan does not involve dating a paranormal creature—let alone two.
Running the supernatural society of New York is not as fun as it sounds, especially when you still have to answer to your ex-girlfriend’s fiancé. Toby doesn’t mean to bring Casey into the chaos of his life, but he can't resist the girl who makes him smile when he thought no one else ever could.
Jared's in New York checking out a security risk for his best friend, the king. He plans to return to New Orleans quickly, but not if it means losing his chance with the brunette who pretends she wants nothing to do with him.
In over her head with a bunch of winged creatures who most definitely are not angels, Casey has to figure out who to trust with her life and maybe her heart.

5 things Jared and Toby think you should know about Casey
1) Both Jared and Toby think you should know that Casey is beautiful. She probably doesn’t realize the effect she has on those around her.
2) Toby thinks you should know that Casey has the kind of smile that lights up a room. From the moment he first met her she was a bright spot in his life.
3) Jared thinks you should know that Casey affects him in a way that no girl ever has. There’s just something about her he can’t shake. He’s not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
4) Toby thinks you should know that Casey belongs with him.
5) Jared thinks you should know that Casey wants him.
My Review
I have not read the Crescent Chronicles by Alyssa Rose Ivy which is the predecessor to The Empire Chronicles but I’m thinking I’m going to have to do that now. Soar sucked me in the minute I started reading. I was actually in a book funk before I picked it up and it pulled me right out of it. The story was engaging and the writing flowed effortlessly, I couldn’t put it down. I want to also say that you can read this without reading the first series because Alyssa does a great job with recapping the past but not so much that you couldn't go back and read them. Actually I think the way she does it makes you want to go back and read them more.
The world of the shifters is really interesting. To be honest the book reminded me a bit of a manga, which for me is a good thing. This book would translate well to a graphic novel, I think they should make one! Alright but really I loved how the paranormal was layered over the normal. Plus shape-shifters deriving from different animals. Come on that’s awesome right. It’s nice to see a different paranormal society outside of the realm of what’s become standard.
I really liked both Toby and Jared which made me sad for both of them when they started crushing on Casey. I didn’t want either of them to lose out. Heck sometimes I even felt bad for Eric! Since I don’t know Toby from the first series he came across as sweet and kind. Jared was the witty and arrogant type. You almost wanted to combine them into one guy. Mmmm Tored or maybe Jaby…..Arlight but really, both guys had their strengths and weaknesses and I’ll be happy to take one of them off Casey’s hands.
I really liked Casey in the beginning but at the end, wow I wanted to slap the girl. Mostly because she made a decision based off something so completely idiotic. Really after all that you are going to believe that random person. Come on girl! I liked her tough as nails attitude though and I think she is going to kick butt in the series. I also really liked her friendships with Remy and Allie, even if we didn’t see her interact with either that much. I assume through the series we will see more of it.
The ending was great! It made me excited for book 2 and I can’t wait to get it into my hot little hands. If I had it I probably would have just kept reading. I’m completely hooked!
